SCOTT TUROW, Chicago native and author of the acclaimed #1 best-selling legal thriller Presumed Innocent and 9 other works of fiction and non-fiction, including One L, an account of his experiences as a student at Harvard Law School, has been named the first recipient of the Lawrence A. Sanders Prize, awarded by the Creative Writing Program at Florida International University in Miami.  The prize, believed to be unique in American letters, is awarded annually to a writer of fiction, identified by the program, and whose work combines literary excellence with popular appeal.  The award is supported by a grant from the Lawrence A. In addition to his books, Turow is a frequent contributor of essays and op-ed pieces to such publications as Vanity Fair, The New York Times, The New Yorker, and The Atlantic.  He is the past recipient of the Heartland Prize in 2003 and the Robert F. Kennedy Book Award in 2004, and in 1999, Time Magazine named his Personal Injuries the Best Work of Fiction of the year.  He is a past president of the Author’s Guild, and a Trustee of Amherst College, his alma mater.  He remains a practicing attorney and a partner in the Chicago offices of Sonnenschein Nath & Rosenthal.
