I’m in rural northeast North Carolina and sponsor a program called Writers Read. Authors read excerpts of works in progress and get immediate feedback from the audience. It’s easy, become popular enough that we’ve added a Young Writers half hour, and a great way to make connections and sell your book. Email me to talk about how to start this kind of program in your neck of the woods!

Julian, it is great to hear from you! I’d love to see your poetry–please do email me. And I’d like to invite you to post a poem or two on “Hooks” so that interested readers can see your work. Thanks!

Energized by a recent class that Lauren taught, five of us have formed a writing group. We had our first meeting at Barnes and Noble in Pikeville earlier this month to determine our “rules of engagement.” We plan to meet every other month (at my house) to discuss our latest work and items of interest to writers. Revisions/updates/new works etc. are due for review to each group member two weeks before each meeting. We’ll also share other items of interest via e-mail between meetings. Each member has selected a date for having a completed draft of his/her book and the rest of us are to ensure the deadline is met! We’re very excited!
Thanks Lauren for the inspiration!!

Stella– you and your fellow writers are living examples of the efficacy of the Screw Iowa method–the power of a group. I hope you will check in from time to time and let us know how it’s going!
